today while i work, i am listening to This American Life. you should too. at one point i was so hooked on these radio slice of life stories, i had listened to the whole archive more than once and started going through the experimental works on transom.org - from that site: TRANSOM: "TRAN-sum" A small hinged window above a door, allowing light and ventilation into hallways of older buildings. At magazine and newspaper offices, unsolicited manuscripts were submitted "over the transom."
that's interesting. i can imagine a young aspiring writer making a gutsy move and shoving their best work through the tiny, high-up window, then leaving, wondering if anyone would read it and love it and give them their lucky break. i wonder if i'd be brave enough to do that...
