sharp dressed van

ej is one of the best drivers i've ever had the pleasure of sharing a car with. he can drive in any conditions and operate a moving truck effortlessly. (decker, you are also in the top 5! how are you guys so relaxed behind the wheel?)
he blames this on learning to drive in a van much like the one pictured below.

i kind of wish he still had that van.

this post was going to end here, but writing the title reminded me of being on phish tour with the matts. driving from...somewhere to somewhere else...we spotted perhaps the coolest custom van ever on the road - a ZZ top themed van, airbrushed with the words "sharp dressed van". he cruised past us and we were in awe - was this a member of ZZ top or just an ultimate fan? we pulled into a rest stop a few minutes later, and the van was in the parking lot! we thought about waiting around to chat with the van's owner, but decided to snap a photo with the van and be on our way.

i just googled for info about the van, and now i wish we had waited around. the owner of the sharp dressed van was named Pete Fey, and apparantly he was much loved by the vanning community. sounds like he was a great guy and i'm sure he would been more than happy to tell us about the van.

wow. these van people know what's up. check out this guy's flickr sets. the vans are sick and i totally want one - it would be awesome for traveling to faraway craft events. then we could party with the van people, who clearly know how to have a good time. i want this cake for my 70th birthday too (ok, michelle?)

this guy, at least at one time, had the fender from the sharp dressed van. i am tempted to contact him and, if he still has it, make an offer.
