Lz has been making lots of sweet crockpot love lately. slow cooked food tastes incredible, has amazing texture, and kills the 'what are we having for dinner' debate. your house smells so wonderful all day long you can barely wait to enjoy your homecooked meal.
we really hope we get this rad triple slow cooker at some point this year. we hope we eventually have some place to store it too!
here are some recent slowcooked successes.
(warning: we eat innocent animals and their byproducts with very little shame)
roast of extreme easiness
roast
beefy onion soup mix packet
cream of mushroom soup can
water
chunks o' veggies (carrots, mushrooms, potatoes, whatever)
mix onion soup mix, cream of mush soup, and a soup can of water in a bowl. pour over roast in crockpot. cook on low for 8ish hours. add veggies for last 2ish hours of cooking. roast is done when it starts to fall apart, veggies are done when they taste done. it makes its own gravy.
couldn't be easier bbq pork for sammiches
pork
bbq sauce
sliced onion, minced garlic (you can skip these if you want)
place pork in crockpot. if you are using them, add garlic now and onions either now or an hour or so before cooking ends if you will be around. pour half of your bbq sauce over pork. cook on high or low 8ish hours, til it shreds easily. shred meat with fork, add more bbq sauce til it is as saucy as you like it, scoop onto buns or on a baked potato, stuff in face.
french onion soup
50 cent bag of onions from the Strip
can of beef broth
water
beef bouillon cubes
bread
cheese
cut onions til you can't see anymore. i didn't quite make it through the whole bag. throw onions and 3/4 a stick of butter or a similar amount of olive oil in crockpot on low for 8-10 hours. (i stopped here and put the onions in the fridge and finished the soup for lunch the next day) add beef broth, can full of water, and 3-4 bouillon cubes. cook on low for another 5-6 hours.
most recipes ask for a toasted baguette slice and gruyere or swiss, but we had some kind of 'hearty sandwich bun' and sliced provolone, so i put a cheese slice on a bun half, broiled it til the cheese was bubbly and starting to brown, and topped the soup with floaty cheesy bread. 'restaurant quality' says ej.

chocolate fondue-me baby
6-pack hershey bars
almost a whole bag of large marshmallows (save some for dipping later)
1 cup whipping cream (or cool whip)
li'l splash of vanilla
put everything except whipping cream in crock on low. wait 30 min, stir, wait another 30 min, stir in whipping cream, wait another hour.
move crock to trivet on table where you have set out cookies, pretzels, graham crackers, etc. for dipping. have a big spoon ready to rescue any lost food. laugh maniacally while gorging on chocolate dipped food. stop eating just before you are sick.
the "you killed it" coffee
2 huge mugs nearly full of strong brewed coffee
2 packets of hot cocoa mix
sprinkle of cinnamon
larger sprinkle of sugar
small handful of chocolate chips
put everything in crockpot on low for 1-2 hours. ladle into mug. sit. drink. smile.
